Rudolph is the central character in the Stop motion Animation Rankin/Bass television special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Just as the song suggests, he has a red nose that seems to annoy everyone -- especially Santa. Because of his words, Donner attempts to place a black nose on Rudolph, which later falls off.
Rudolph gets his spirit dampened by the comments received about his nose, later running away from home. On his journey he meets another outcast, Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist.
In all of the Rankin/Bass television specials Rudolph was voiced by Billy Mae Richards.
Later life[]
The Rudolph and Santa Claus puppets were given to a former Rankin/Bass employee who used them as Christmas decorations. After years of being kept in a box a relative discovered the puppets, characters such as Sam the Snowman and Yukon Cornelius were melted together, later to be discarded. Rudolph and Santa were sold, restored, and currently appearing in traveling exhibits.
