PERFORMER John Blackman
DEBUT 1971

Dicky Knee was the bobbing 'head on a stick' that appeared through out the run of Hey Hey It's Saturday and its revival in 2009. Originally just called the 'School Boy', with no puppet designated to him, School Boy was just a voice John Blackman provided. When the School Boy evolved into 'Stinky', a small afro on a mannequin head with a blue cap was used for the first time. This was when the character's personality shown through, being a crude and crass and super bluntly honest kid. When Hey Hey It's Saturday's host, Daryl Somers, walked behind the host desk, he bumped his knee, exclaiming he had a 'Dicky Knee' now. In a moment of infamy, a stage hand waved the hair on a stick, popped up with John Blackman asking 'You called?', thus Dicky Knee was unleashed.

Dicky went onto meeting some of the world's top celebrities', and even started a rivalry with Molly Meldrum and his dogs. When Hey Hey It's Saturday finally ended, Dicky was the only character from it to see fame elsewhere, hosting Toon Time with Penelope Mitchell, showing classic Looney Tune shorts.
